2016 Olympic Games in Rio

So my city will be the house of 2016 Olympic Games!

To tell you the absolute truth, of course I am happy for this but I refrain my enthusiasm. Rio is a city that has so many things to improve until it can be considered eligible to host such a huge event like this! I know first-hand for obvious reasons, living there for more than ten years until last year. The infrastructure is so poor, and seven years is a very short period of time to have it all ready. They have to improve transportation system a lot. This is one of the main things to be done... They have to clean all the rivers and waterways that are so shamely polluted... They have to immensely reinforce police system to guarantee the safety of all population, athletes, and so on... Summoning up, I am happy but at the same time I am a bit worried about it. Not to say that in seven years politicians change in elections and so many things cn be postponed or cancelled!

I'm usually so optmistic, but in this case, I know I sound terribly down, but... I do hope everything is prepared in time and we have a beautiful party then. Of course it will be awesome for the country economy, but it really need to be very well scheduled to be a reason for us to be proudm not the opposite. With this vain and stupid President of ours, I always get worried.

But I'll have to give this project some credit now.

Just like the World's Fair used to do, the Olympics now can really help a city. Just watch! So many things will be improved and corrected! Of course, the politicians COULD have done so before, but now, all eyes are on them and they will suddenly find the funds to have it all done. And the good people of Brazil will benefit! That is my hope! I was so sad when I read that this is the FIRST time a city in S.A. had been chosen -- the rest of the world's eyes have been too closed to some of our brethern and the old ways are passing, and new ways, which I think will star many countries of S.A. and also India, are going to begin!

I agree with Old Dame Penniwig, the Games will help out so much! And even if all the things that need to be done don't get done, at least some of it will get done and improve your city.

BTW I have moved to a new blog site, just so I don't confuse you lol!

I read this news yesterday and thought of you! Hopefully it will help the city out in the long run, even though its seems like so much to be done now. And what a neat thing to be able to experience!

Oh wow! I hope this helps the city a lot. I haven't been keeping up with the whole thing- I didn't even know they were deciding where the games would be yet. xD This is really good, though!

Thank you for taking the time to read through all my old posts. It makes me feel good to know I have such wonderful blog friends. <3

Hopefully it will do your country a world of good.

I'm sure most cities are in this same position 7 years out.

It'll be so much fun for you guys too. :)

The Olympics were here in 1996 and the improvement was amazing. Things they couldn't bother to do before were now done really quickly. And most of it is still nice. Like electronic billboards on the highways talking about what traffic might be ahead, etc. This could be very good for Rio. And the street kids are going to make a fortune! *wink*

I was glad to hear that Rio got the Olympics. We are in the last few months of preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics here in BC. They started early, but there will lots of last minute rushing to get it all done in time. The greatest disappointment in that getting tickets has been nearly impossible unless you want to spend huge sums of money. We tried twice in the lottery held for Canadians and got nothing. So now we plan just to watch it on TV when we are in town. So close, but yet so far! - Margy
